About Terrapin Beer Co.
Terrapin Beer Co. was doing craft beer in Athens before most of the current competition existed. The brewery on Newton Bridge Road has been a cornerstone of the Georgia craft beer scene for over two decades, and their taproom and brewery tour remain one of the best beer experiences in the Athens area. The beer lineup is broad and well executed, with flagship styles that have earned widespread distribution alongside seasonal releases and experimental batches that reward visits to the taproom. Terrapin takes the brewing seriously while keeping the overall experience fun and accessible. The tours give visitors a behind the scenes look at the operation and end with tastings that let you try things you will not find in stores. The Newton Bridge Road facility is set up for hanging out. The taproom has plenty of space, the outdoor area handles weekend crowds well, and the atmosphere is casual and dog friendly. Food trucks frequently set up on site, and the brewery hosts events that draw people from across Athens and beyond. Terrapin's location is outside the downtown core, about a 10 minute drive, which means it serves as a destination rather than a bar hop stop. That works in its favor. People come to Terrapin intentionally, and the experience rewards the trip with enough variety and space to spend a full afternoon. The brewery is open for visits and tastings throughout the week. Tours run on a schedule that is posted on their website. Pricing for tastings and flights is standard for the craft brewery format.

We approached Terrapin and noticed a large parking lot, which made things easy. We found a space pretty quickly and walked over to the property. We could see that they had a Día de los Muertos festival going on. We found the main entrance and stepped inside. I was thrown off at first by how empty and quiet it was. The first thing I noticed was a small souvenir shop near the front. We continued to walk in a little farther and found the main bar area with all the taps lined up and the wall covered in signs listing their rotating beer selections. We asked the staff behind the counter if they offered flights. Although they don't do traditional flights, they do have a special where you could choose six 6-ounce pours and you get to keep your choice of Terrapin glassware. Wifey and I each picked three beers each from the rotating menu. We chose everything from a Wheat to a Stout. We scooped our beers and headed out to the outside seating area where the festival was in full swing. As we started sipping our beers, we enjoyed most of our choices and the great weather. Then a few bees started hanging around, and unfortunately, a couple even dove into our beers. I took them back inside, let the staff know what happened, and they replaced them right away with no hesitation. We hung out outside for a little while longer, finished our beers, and enjoyed the weather and festival activities. As we were leaving, I noticed a small stage setup. So I am sure they have live music here as well. Overall, a very good first visit to the Terrapin Brewery in Athens. We will definitely come back to try some other options.

Great atmosphere! Plenty of space. Great beer! The bar manager, Savannah "Terrapin" was very friendly and we enjoyed speaking with her and the 2 other ladies we interacted with. They were both fun to interact with. Great place and I'm not just saying that because my last name is Terrapin, but it is.

Solid brewery! Ample seating in a nice clean space. The staff is friendly and the restrooms are clean. The live music for tonight was great! There were only a few of us inside but they were a fun bunch. Good amount of parking out front and had no trouble finding a spot. I’m not sure where you'd park though if this place was packed. You walk right into the gift shop when you enter, and the taproom is directly to the left. Overall, a solid experience made more enjoyable by the clientele and music at the time.
