Eastside Athens

The Eastside of Athens encompasses the commercial corridors along Barnett Shoals Road and Lexington Road, serving a large and growing residential population that stretches east and southeast from the city center. This is the part of Athens that has seen the most growth in recent years, with new apartments, shopping centers, and restaurants opening to meet the demand of a population that has expanded beyond the traditional downtown and west side footprint.

The dining scene on the east side has matured significantly. Athens Pho on Barnett Shoals brings authentic Vietnamese cooking. Siri Thai Cuisine on Gaines School Road is widely considered one of the best Thai restaurants in the Athens area. Taqueria La Parrilla on Prince Avenue (the eastern stretch) provides reliable Mexican food. Mama Sid's Pizza serves the neighborhood with quality pizza delivery and dine in. Inoko Hibachi Express delivers hibachi flavors in a quick counter service format at prices well below sit down hibachi restaurants.

The east side is also where you will find some of Athens' most trusted service businesses. Car Doctors Auto Repair operates a Jefferson Road location. Gaines Shoal Animal Clinic, Winterville Animal Clinic, and several other veterinary practices serve the pet owning community. The Lexington Road corridor has added car washes, laundromats, and retail options as the population has grown.

For shopping, the east side offers practical retail along Barnett Shoals and Lexington Roads. Pet Supplies Plus on Alps Road (accessible from the east side), thrift stores, and neighborhood retailers serve everyday needs. The area may not have the boutique charm of Five Points, but it offers the convenience and affordability that growing families and working households need.
